Fam Ekman is a Swedish-Norwegian visual artist, illustrator and author who is especially known for her beautiful and distinctive picture books for children and adults.
The texts in Ekman's books are short and subtle and are often based on fairytales and animal fables. The illustrations are usually made as collages of pieces of paper with graphic patterns and figures in matching colors. Fam Ekman is considered one of the foremost creators of picture books in Norway.
- I have been working with picture books for many years, mostly my own texts and pictures, they have been the very axis of my life. Some of the pictures have flown away, some have stayed, and will be seen in Tegnerforbundet . In the exhibition you will see a selection of cats, a general with a pin, angry men with apples, girls in rooms and garden gnomes, a knight with a cake spatula, a castle with stepsisters, some older children and a girl in pieces and much more, says Fam Ekman.
Ekman (born 1946 in Stockholm) is a graduate of SHKS and The Art Academy in Oslo. She has received Brageprisen, Nordiske Tegneres Pris, Bokkunstprisen, Klassikerprisen, Riksmålsprisen and Kritikerprisen, and she has been purchased by The National Gallery, The National Museum and The National Library.
June 2 at 17.00, the book Fuglebadet will be launched at Tegnerforbundet.
