Stone Tape

Hanne Grieg Hermansen works with drawing primarily based on photography, where the technique and the use of time are an important part of the expression. The disproportion between the time it has taken for the light to stick to the film and the pencil to stick to the paper is great. There is a paradox in this as the intention is to a large extent to eliminate visible traces of the process. In this way, some of the drawings lie in a no-man's land between two media, they want to be full-fledged drawings and full-fledged photographs at the same time.

Formally, she mainly works with pure pencil drawings, but also more installation-oriented works. The formats vary from project to project, from miniature drawings to monumental wall drawings and sculptural drawing-based works in varying sizes. In recent years, her works have moved towards an increasingly darker expression, where the graphite itself has become an important part of the expression.

What the works have in common is that they revolve around themes such as materiality and decomposition, value displacement and illusion, light and darkness, technique and mystery.

Hanne Grieg Hermansen (b. 1984) has a BA in Art in Oslo (2008) and an MA in Art Academy in Bergen (2010). In the past, she has participated in group exhibitions at, among others, Tromsø Art Association, Kurant, Gallery F15, Oslo Art Association and Gallery Erik Steen, as well as held a solo exhibition at Tag Team Studio in Bergen.
