Ingrid Jangaard Ousland has this time put together a retrospective exhibition with a focus on drawing, in collaboration with Ottar Karlsen, chairman of the board at Tegnerforbundet . We are happy to be able to show her diverse drawing expressions as an illustrator and visual artist through a long life.
At the bottom lies the joy of drawing. As in childhood, the imagination flows out of the pencil in the hand. Both hand and imagination are gradually rein in, it becomes serious, and it can become a variety of possibilities and forms of expression.
I want to show how the drawing has followed me in phases, has changed, and has changed me. From sketches of speed and movement, human encounters and impressions of nature, to work with books and illustration - and on to a need for more concentration and clarity.
The author Jon Fosse has stated: "Writing is listening", and I would add: "drawing is listening". Through the sketch you become responsive and receptive, impressions are stored and amplified. When one then listens further, the desire for further processing of the memories emerges: by looking for and clarifying the essence of the previous set, a new expression of the experienced is created. - Ingrid Jangaard Ousland
Ingrid Jangaard Ousland (born 1932 in Ålesund) lives and works in Nesodden. She has a degree from the State School of Crafts and Art Industry in Oslo and the Philadelphia Museum School of Art in the USA. Ousland has had a number of solo exhibitions around the country, most recently this autumn in Ålesund Kunstforening. She has also participated in many group and group exhibitions. Ousland received the Ministry of Culture's illustration award for children's and young people's books in 1993 and is, among other things, purchased by the National Museum, the National Gallery and the Norwegian Cultural Council.
