The title of the exhibition refers to both denomination variations and image content, and will consist of several large works that extend from ceiling to floor.
For many years, Karen Ingeborg Bye has performed large installations of drawing with charcoal or pigment on paper and canvas. In this exhibition she shows works in acrylic and gesso on paper, some in combination with charcoal.
- No matter what techniques or materials I use, my main focus is on texture, and denominations from black to white. My pictures often deal with nature and the landscape, both as a place of refuge and a battlefield. The absence of people gives me a freedom and contributes to the landscapes own story, says Bye.
When I choose large formats, it is to get, and give, a feeling of going inward into the image and becoming a part of it. Become a participant.
Karen Ingeborg Bye is graduated from The Art Academy in Oslo, and Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole. She has an extensive number of solo exhibitions behind her, and has been purchased by, among others, The National Gallery and The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Bye has been awarded with a number of scholarships, and has since 2014 received Statens Stipend for senior artists. The exhibition is supported by Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond.
