NO MEASURE, NO LIMIT

It's a great pleasure too Tegnerforbundet that Kjell Varvin shows a retrospective drawing exhibition with us in the same year he turns 80! Varvin has exhibited in Tegnerforbundet on several occasions. He has been a pioneer, he has been fearless and playful and explored the limits of what can be called drawing. In this exhibition he shows works from 1959 until today. As on several occasions when Varvin exhibits, the exhibition will change during the period, so this exhibition must be visited at least twice, before and after 5 March.

It is of course a mixed collection of drawings I present in my retrospective exhibition. I have always wanted to expand the concept of drawing. Maximum drawings could be ski tracks across the plateau or condensation streaks from planes. I perceive music linearly, the lines flow into the room and disappear before our ears. But one can also imagine that they travel further and mix with other systems of lines, radio waves and photons.

It was about the free drawing. In Tegnerforbundets Jubileumsutstilling in 1986, at gallery F-15 in Moss, I had drawings in three dimensions. Harald Flor called it a hybrid, it was drawings floating in a plastic tube. In 1997, I was invited as a draftsman to the Autumn Exhibition with welded steel rods from a corner, drawing in the room. It served as both drawing and sculpture. I follow the desire and try my hand in all directions, it is important not to lock myself inside.
