Liv's work is created over time. She has no plan for the motive before she starts, and during her work she allows emotions, thoughts, memories, knowledge and empathy get a free rein.

Like confetti, ideas and whims are thrown across the surface in the form of signs, colors, dots and lines that create chaos, but still with a little resistance. Every small or large sensation moves the eye further and enables an experience of the entire image. Dessen likes it there, in concentration with her gaze in an impulsive process where she will either add, take care of or reject.

Liv Dessen was born in 1935, and lives and works in Oslo. She is educated from School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and from Asker Malerskole. She has been purchased by The National Gallery and a number of public collections, and she has had solo exhibitions, among others, in Tegnerforbundet, Gallery LNM and Oslo Kunstforening.
