Øyvind Sørensen is considered Norway's first newspaper cartoonist.
He was hired as an illustrator by Aftenposten in 1909, where he worked until his death. He became especially known for his accurate portraits in, among others, Aftenposten's A-magazine. He illustrated for the weekly magazine Urd, in the satirical press and in other weekly magazines and Christmas booklets, and he illustrated over 60 books. Sørensen was one of Tegnerforbundet's eight founders and chairman from 1916-18 and 1929-31.
Øyvind Sørensen (1887-1962) was born in Fredrikstad. In addition to his work in the newspapers and as an illustrator, he participated in a number of exhibitions with independent works, and is represented in The National Gallery.
