Ute. Speiling. Avisene. (Out. Mirroring. Newspapers.)
Sissel Fredriksen works with drawing where there are often contradictions or juxtapositions that are explored and provide a starting point for seeing ambiguities. Fredriksen's exhibition at Tegnerforbundet is divided into three parts; Outside, Mirroring, Newspapers. The various parts form a way for the artist to sort out thoughts about openness, information and withdrawal;
'Ute' (Out) brings together drawings that investigate, process and combine impressions of nature. It is the outdoor space with endless variations and sizes. A place that holds everything from predictability to chaos.
'Speiling' (Mirroring) shows a more controlled, dense and limited space.
'Avisene' (Newspapers) are built up with a structure that resembles a framework from the newspaper world. A form that indicates information, processing of material and objectivity. In the newspaper version, the information is more fluid, subjective and unclear. The pages are designed by emphasizing the layout and images, while the text becomes irrelevant and unreadable.
Sissel Fredriksen is educated at The Art Academy in Bergen (1993) and The Art Academy in Oslo (1989). Fredriksen has been purchased by SpareBank1 Nord-Norges art foundation, Troms municipality and St. Olavs Hospital. In 2014, she was awarded with a grant for established artists by Kulturrådet.
