Solveig Bergene has created a dynamic and detailed world of images that alternates between the figurative and the abstract, joined together in a network of geometric and symmetrical patterned surfaces. With a ruler, compass and delicate layers of watercolor, drawings are created with a fascinating organic logic. In the exhibition in Tegnerforbundet she exhibits a series of new works in large format and hand-bound artist books, which the audience is invited to browse.

‍ I work with watercolor and hand-bound artist books. When I start with a new watercolor, I start with a geometric and symmetrical pattern drawn with rulers and compass, then I build up the image space with thin transparent layers of watercolor. The basic geometric drawing in the pictures is shown just through the transparent layers.

I mix figurative and abstract elements in the images. The figurative motifs are often animals, plants and other things from nature. I like the complexity of organic forms, things from nature have a timelessness that man-made things often do not have. (Solveig Bergene)
