RECYCLING MEMORIES

Quiet life in the shadow of Kafka's castle: a shoe after mum, dad's ashtray from the time he smoked, a postcard with Peder Balke's Stetind, mirrors and reflections, reflections of the past and extensions of the present. Still life from Prague and the surrounding area, portraits of family and friends, a whole world in surprising perspectives, painstakingly drawn with a pencil and in places colored with felt-tip pen, made in medium and large formats.

This is Smetana's first exhibition in Norway: A magical realism that is both remembrance work and creative process, yes, transcendence.

Tomáš Smetana (born 1960 in Prague) has for the past 20 years had a number of exhibitions in his native Czech Republic. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1980-1985). Lives and works in Prague and Nové Mesto na Morave.
