Exhibition opening on Thursday 4 October at 6 pm.
Bjørn Hegardt is known for his black and white drawings on paper and walls. He seeks new perspectives and connections between everyday environments, the universe, architecture and nature. This is Hegardt's second exhibition at Tegnerforbundet and we look forward to showing new drawings - and this time, also floating installations. During the exhibition period, the latest issue of the journal Fukt will be launched.
In the exhibition "Matters of Gravity" I show a number of new works where I connect levitation, geometric shapes and architecture with drawing and installation and challenge gravity through drawing and object. The expression is reduced, kept in black and white, with a strong graphic line and clear geometric shapes. The strict shapes contrast the more organic way of filling the surfaces with felt-tip pens. The drawings also contain more figurative elements; often based on an image archive I have built up over several years, which I use actively in the work process. The archive consists of own photos and found material. With sampling from the archive, I put together new shapes and transform architecture and objects.
With the help of electromagnetism, the force of gravity on the floating objects displayed in the exhibition is eliminated. I play on spiritual, magical and religious aspects, where levitation has a role, but also on scientific and cultural angles. - Bjørn Hegardt
