The drawing triennial 2019, which bears the title Human Touch , is curated by Helga-Marie Nordby, arranged by Tegnerforbundet and produced in collaboration with Kunstnernes Hus. The triennial opens on November 8 at Kunstnernes Hus and on November 9 in Tegnerforbundet . In the exhibition, 35 invited artists approach drawing as a basic human expression.

For me, time ceases when I see a drawing, it is a direct encounter with another human being. Energy transferred; vulnerable, immediate, powerful. Nine red ocher lines on a stone drawn by a human 73,000 years ago. It ignites a spark in me! (Helga-Marie Nordby)

In the exhibition, curator Helga-Marie Nordby seeks to create a larger space for reflection around drawing, not only as an artistic expression, but as an inherent language and potential in man. The drawing points both inwards and outwards, and manifests itself not only as imitation or depiction, but as visual ideas, as reflection, as exploration, as questions. By drawing lines to the prehistoric and drawing as communication before the written language, the exhibition examines drawing as man's primary imprint - both in a physical and mental sense. In a digital image culture, where first-hand experiences are replaced by more and more digital and virtual substitutes, the need for something tangible and concrete - the pencil against the paper - gains new and acute relevance. In the exhibition you will see a selection from Guttorm Guttormsgaard´s unique diary-project, a drawn life course consisting of several thousand drawings, Elisabeth Mathisen's mourning work on paper, Per Teljer's biting male portraits and William Kentridge's monumental work drawn with tape in the stairwell at Kunstnernes Hus. In one of the triennial's guest performances, we also get to see drawings of Norwegian Outsider Art practitioners.

The diversity of the drawing triennial dissemination program Before and after the line opens up a greater reflection on drawing as a universal form of expression and a tool for understanding the world and ourselves. The program will create an activating and reflective framework around the main exhibition.
