Exhibition opening 30.09 at 6pm.
In this exhibition, Janine Magelssen presents site-specific works, wall reliefs, works on paper and sculptural constructions. The artist's work is based on the drawing as a basis for understanding form and form concepts. With a reduced design language, convex and concave approaches are used to create shape, volume, space and surface. These forms are defined by the artist as shadow, light, lines and voids. When the language and means are reduced and toned down to a minimum, it can be experienced as a silence that meets the viewer. What this silence entails depends on one's own prerequisites and visual experience. The tactile is central to this experience. The perceptual is activated in encounter with Magelssen's art, the body's sensations are stimulated and the result can be related back to the human body and space through a subtle sensation.
In my artistic practice, drawing is fundamental; the line's tactile expression and effective properties in visualizing form and voids are essential. I work with the drawing both in a spatial three-dimensional context and as a direct expression of perception of spaciousness, sound, light and temperature through daily notation drawings on paper and slower and more time-consuming drawings.
The exhibition will both consist of site-specific works; right on the wall in the borderland between drawing and object and reliefs, free-hanging constructions in rooms and drawings on paper.
In an exhibition context, these enter into dialogue with each other and create constellations that evade linguistic interpretations. Instead, they activate the sense of space and give the viewer what I would call an abstract experience.
