In the exhibition There came Death , death runs like a red thread through Magnhild Opdøl's work. Her exquisitely detailed pencil drawings and studies of mutilated animals are rooted in a classical tradition going back to Dürer and Claesz. Opdøl's keen interest in anatomy and drawing skills is shown in the Dead Dog Farm series. Among other works on display are a series of pencil drawings that reproduce parts of animals, and several works with references to scenes from David Lynch's cult series Twin Peaks. Certain objects in taxidermy and bronze will also be shown at the exhibition. In many of her works, Opdøl literally turns things in-and-out, exploring the tension between an ecstatic carnality and a restrained self-torture defined by a calculated skill of her hand.
