Moonlight Activities

Robin Danielsson works with drawing and painting, taking his starting point in his immediate surroundings. He finds inspiration in classical painting traditions, ornamentation and popular culture. Through a conscious composition of motif, format and placement, he suggests potential narratives in which the transience of man and nature are central themes. Danielsson participated in Tegnebiennalen 2016 and showed works in gallery Soft. Moonlight Activites is his first solo exhibition in Oslo and we are very pleased that it is taking place in Tegnerforbundet.

For the exhibition Moonlight Activities, I am showing a series of new works on paper in large formats. The drawings bear the stamp of an open approach where I experiment with a combination of linoleum prints and oil pastels. A simplified, linear line is drawn on a dark background, similar to a negative where the light defines the contours. I want to create a playful universe where imaginative and abstract motif choices flow into each other.

The drawings are worked out in an intuitive flow, new motifs are formed through experiences from the previous works. Two-dimensional issues are investigated and tested. The drawings are the result of an intense, repetitive gesture where each brushstroke is irreversible. This creates a transparent process where all decisions become visible to the viewer. - Robin Danielsson
