Tegnerforbundet is proud to host Solveig Ane Kirkaune Øksendal's first major solo exhibition in Oslo. Øksendal takes us into a burlesque world and describes how she works, both in terms of technique and motive:
I work with figurative drawing, watercolor, sculpture and installation where central themes are body, gender, sexuality and the abject. With a feminist starting point and dark humor, I work with the female body and the depiction of it with both art historical as well as pop cultural references.
In the exhibition, I show watercolors for the first time together with my pencil drawings and present the watercolor project Tits & Ass in its entirety. The work consists of 140 watercolors produced in the last two years from tits and buttocks in square size, a format often linked to social media. With this work, I invite you into a manual instafeed that you can move in. I have been interested in change and transience, and how in today's high-tech society you can change and shape the body almost limitlessly according to your own wishes, at the same time I have explored the inherent qualities of watercolors. Where the drawings are time consuming and meditative in execution, the watercolor requires higher concentration in less time. You have to think fast and work fast while the opportunity to erase is almost not there. In the same way as in the drawing, the sheet reveals everything, and the first attempt is the only attempt. Unlike drawing, there is a greater freedom in terms of the coincidences one has to make room for.
In addition to the watercolors, I show a bunch of new drawings made especially for this exhibition.
