"Illustrator in Residence" June 26 - July 1: Anja Dahle Øverbye

Tegnerforbundet's project "Illustrators in Residence" (IIR) was organized for the first time in 2015, and aims to highlight the high quality and diversity in Norwegian illustration art. By allowing selected actors from the field to make the Tegnerforbundet's project room their own throughout June, the public will get an insight into various work processes and greater familiarity with the field.

Fourth "Illustrator in Residence" in June is Anja Dahle Øverbye.

Anja Dahle Øverbye (1981) will work on a cartoon story during her project week in Tegnerforbundet . Here, the public will get an insight into the work behind a cartoon.

The story that Dahle Øverbye wants to work on is the true story of Nelson the clown and the suspension bridge at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England. In 1845, the clown was to sail down the river Bure in a bathtub pulled by four geese. This was supposed to be advertising for the circus that was coming to town. Many thousands of people flocked to see the clown come sailing, and when the clown came, all the people gathered on one side of the suspension bridge. The consequence of this was that the bridge tipped over, and 79 people drowned, including 59 children. What was supposed to be a fun experience turned into a horrible tragedy. Dahle Øverbye will tell the story from the clown's side, and how he experienced the situation.

Anja Dahle Øverbye is educated in Graphic Design from the Kent Institute of Art and Design, England. She works both with her own art projects and illustration assignments, but in recent years she has focused more and more on comics. Her first comic novel "Hundedagar" was published in May 2015, and won "Comic Book of the Year" at the Oslo Comics Expo in 2016. Øverbye's second book "Bergen" was published at the end of May 2018. In 2016 she started Blokk Forlag together with Ingrid Flognfeldt Brubaker which focuses on comics, fanzines and artist books.

On Thursday, 28 July at 5pm, there will be a "Tegnesnakk Spesial" (Drawing Talk) with the participants in "Illustrators in Residence". Read morehere .
