"Illustrator in Residence": Mari Martens Kristoffersen

The Norwegian Drawing Center's annual project "Illustrators in Residence" (IIR) aims to highlight the high quality and diversity that exists in Norwegian illustration art. By letting selected actors from the field make Tegnerforbundet's project room their own for three weeks in May, the public will gain insight into various work processes and greater knowledge of the field.

The second "Illustrator in Residence" in May is Mari Martens Kristoffersen.

The project that Mari Martens Kristoffersen will be working on during her project week in Tegnerforbundet is a continuation of a research project by Kifah Fanni, under the auspices of the A.M. Quattan Foundation. Quattan Foundation, Ramallah. The project examines how children and young people can acquire knowledge through the medium of animation. How can animation help children and young people learn to express themselves through different materials, and at best lead to increased ability to influence, change and express themselves in society?

The work in Tegnerforbundet will consist of developing video guides of various modeling principles and techniques in plasticine and cardboard. The guides will be a tool that children and young people can use to model their own puppets and scenes for use in animation. The techniques have been developed in collaboration with children and young people, adapted to different ages and fingers.

Mari Martens Kristoffersen (1976), graduated from the Oslo Academy of the Arts, works in various techniques such as drawing, video animation and installation. She has had several exhibitions at home and abroad, such as at the Goethe Institute, Ramallah, House of Foundation, Moss, and RAKE exhibition rooms, Trondheim. Mari Martens Kristoffersen lives and works in Catalonia, Spain.
