For EVERYONE between 13-17 years - Join our combination course in bookbinding and comic book creation!
Tegnerforbundet arranges a combination course in bookbinding and comic book creation aimed at young people between 13-17 years in the project room. The course will be held on Saturdays 19 and 26 January 2019.
The bookbinding course that takes place on 19 January is held by Lisa Bøthun, who runs her own book workshop in Tønsberg, and specializes in hand binding and restoration of books. Bøthun has taught bookbinding at the Oslo Academy of the Arts, Raulands Akademiet, Aftenskolen in Tønsberg and Steinerskolen in Vestfold.
The comic book course is the second part of the combo course and will be held on Saturday 26 January. Here we continue to fill the books that we made in the first part of the course with content. The lecturer is Kristian Krohg-Sørensen, cartoonist and illustrator. He has published the award-winning comic book novel "Gulosten - Life in Hell", the story comic "The Russian Revolution" and several more booklets.
About the courses:
Saturday 19 January 2019, 10 am - 5 pm: Bookbinding course
In the first part of the course you will get to know an old and rare craft, which you can use for modern comics! You will learn how to make books and small booklets, which can then be filled with the most amazing drawings. You will learn how to make fanzines and small books with stiff binders. Step by step you will see how a pile of white paper can turn into books. You will learn to sew the pages together, and make stiff binders. The binders get your unique design, we use fabric, patterned paper and also your own drawings. At least one of the books is a starting point to be filled with comics together with Kristian Krogh-Sørensen. After this bookbinding Saturday, you can bind books by hand at home!
Saturday 26 January 2019, 10 am - 5 pm: Comic book course
In the second part of the course, you will use the books you made during the bookbinding course to create your own cartoon. Comics give you the opportunity to think like a filmmaker. With drawing you can control composition, light and shadow, you can choose "camera angle" - and not least you can control the pace of your story. In the course we will look at how the squares and pages in a cartoon can be used to create everything from centuries-old stories to lightning-fast action sequences. You sketch your own cartoon which you can then enter into your own book with an optional technique. We will also work on how the comic takes shape - from the idea on the sketch sheet to the finished book or magazine.
Course fee (includes courses and material expenses 19/26 January): 2,300
Tools for both courses can be borrowed from the course.
