In collaboration with Oslo Comics Expo and NUMER we invite you to a release party for the anthology NFT - Norway's Future Comics Creators, opening of the exhibition with the anthology's contributors and a panel debate on fees and working conditions in the Norwegian comics industry based on the Norwegian Drawing Center's guiding rates for illustration and comics.
About the anthology NFT - Norway's Future Comic Book Creators
Since 2007, Oslo Comics Expo has worked with communication of Norwegian comic art, and since 2014, the festival has hosted Oslo 24H, where a group of fearless comic book creators lock themselves in the library for 24 hours to produce their 24-page booklet. This year they are launching their first comic book anthology, which will become an annual tradition.
NFT - Norway's Future Comics creators contain works by ten practitioners we hope and believe will characterize Norwegian comics in the years to come. The contributors approach the comic book medium from different angles, but have in common that they are all strong visualists and that they work interdisciplinary. In a vital Norwegian comic book landscape that is increasingly shaped by the support schemes of the Cultural Council and the major publishers' preference for literary narrative book publications, it is appropriate to remind that the medium has as much in common with visual art as with literature. The anthology therefore contains both classic narrative works with speech bubbles and route division and pages that will make it jerk in the but-there-is-actually-not-a-cartoon-nerve of pedants across the country. The intention with the publication is to highlight ten talented artists who are not yet established as comic book creators, and to challenge the understanding of what Norwegian comics can and should be in the years to come.
Contributors to the anthology:
Amir Asgharnejad, Ida Bakken, Milan Benza, Esra Düzen, Andrea Ferkingstad, Annika Linn Verdal Homme, Nina Kraft, Araiz Mesanza, Triva Linda Shahin and Markus Sundberg.
The exhibition with the anthology's contributors can be visited in the Norwegian Drawing Center´s basement during the gallery's opening hours until Tuesday 23.11.
