Silje Rønneberg Hogstad receives Tegnerforbundet's travel grant

20.3.2024

Congratulations to our member Silje Rønneberg Hogstad who received the Tegnerforbundet travel grant 2024!

This year's jury consisted of Shwan Dler Qaradaki and Hilde Hodnefjeld.

The jury's reasoning:

We have decided that the Norwegian Drawing Society's 2024 travel grant will go to Silje Rønneberg Hogstad. She wants to travel to Chennai in South India to draw material for the story Kottivakkam, which takes place in Chennai. The plot of the project is partly autobiographical, but conveys something more general and important.

The jury sees the story as a cultural bridge between Norwegian and Indian culture.

We believe the project can appeal to young people. The drawn narrative will provide a rare insight into Tamil and Indian culture. Without being instructive, the project conveys important themes such as poverty, class differences and cultural traditions. We wish Silje Rønneberg Hogstad good luck and a good trip to India!

Silje Rønneberg Hogstad (1977) has a master's degree in visual arts from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and works with drawing, in recent years mainly with comics. She has had a number of solo and group exhibitions in Norway and abroad, and has been awarded several grants. Her comic book Ting vi trenger (2016, Jippi forlag) has been purchased by the Norwegian Arts Council. Silje Rønneberg Hogstad has been a member of Tegnerforbundet since 2012.
