NUMER 140 is a packed edition! As usual, we open with the latest news in visual arts, illustration, picture books and comics. This is followed by an interview with the general manager of the Norwegian Artists' Association, Hilde Lunde, about the Drawing Challenge – the major national initiative that will increase the competence and drawing skills of children, young people and adults across the country. Together with Kunst og Design i Skolen, Kunst i Skolen and Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, the Drawing Challenge was launched at Sentralen on May 6.
In 2016, Bjørn Tore Pedersen published the book That's where we were born – The Arbeidermagasinet as a public information and community builder , and for this edition of NUMER he has written about Arbeidermagasinet's establishment and the unique cartoonists that the magazine fostered.
Åsa Osmundsen Opedal has interviewed Andreas Soma , who this spring was the subject of the artist's book Bluten , which presents large stencil prints of hand-drawn flowers in pencil.
Anne Schäffer has conducted an extensive interview with Hilde Kramer , former professor of illustration at the Faculty of Art, Music and Design at the University of Bergen, and currently professor in the same field at the Norwegian Children's Book Institute (NBI). Kramer shares her thoughts on drawing education and her work with students at NBI.
With the Tegneløftet fresh in mind, Ingun Bøhn serves us a thought-provoking article about the handwriting that our politicians turned their backs on in 2020. In any case, the text has prompted the editor to revise and refresh her own loop writing.
NUMER ends with three book reviews: Olav and the Letters , Krüger & Krogh Open the Archive , and Frank Zappa Cartoon .
Cover: Kaare-Espolin Johnson.
