"... I will see to it that in time I can illustrate the story; I will be able to do that with a hug". This is what Erik Werenskiold writes to his friend the author Jonas Lie after reading the text of the novel Familien på Gilje. There is no doubt that this was a passionate project for the artist, as evidenced by the more than 300 drawings for the novel in the collection. In this pop-up exhibition, which is an extension of the exhibition "My life! My choice?", the National Museum shows several of Erik Werenskiold's drawings for the book, while also shedding light on the context of the illustrated book edition.
